Dr. Surangbam Yaiphabi Devi

Dr. Sahab B. Yadav
Dr. Sarungbam Yaiphabi Devi is a veterinary surgeon and the founder of Animal India Trust, which she established in 2002 with a commitment to humane and sustainable solutions for India’s street-dog population. Since then, she has led AIT’s work in animal birth control, anti-rabies vaccination and veterinary care across Delhi NCR.
She holds a B.V.Sc & A.H. from Assam Agricultural University and completed specialist training in soft-tissue surgery in Rome, Italy. Over the years, she has also gained international shelter experience through placements with SPCA shelters in San Diego and Dogs Trust in London, and has trained veterinarians across India in spay and neuter techniques.
With more than two decades of experience, Dr. Devi remains deeply involved in AIT’s veterinary work. From establishing its first Animal Birth Control hospital in Delhi to expanding its work into Noida, she has built AIT around a simple belief: effective population management must go hand in hand with compassion and proper veterinary care.
Today, she continues to lead AIT alongside its veterinary team, carrying forward the work she began in 2002.
Dr. Sahab Yadav is a qualified veterinary surgeon with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) from Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar, Haryana. With extensive experience in companion animal care, shelter medicine, cattle medicine and animal welfare, he brings a calm, practical and compassionate approach to veterinary care.
Dr. Yadav began his professional career in 2018, working in a small-animal clinic before gaining experience at Shree Chand Das Gaushala in Haryana. He joined Animal India Trust in 2021, later working at Dr. R.T. Sharma Pet Hospital in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, before returning to AIT in 2023.
Today, as AIT’s Chief Veterinary Surgeon, he performs up to 30 surgeries a day, combining speed and efficiency with careful surgical technique and attention to each animal’s wellbeing.
With experience across clinics, shelters, gaushalas and animal-welfare programmes, Dr. Yadav is an integral part of AIT’s ongoing mission to provide humane, accessible veterinary care to street dogs.

Paravets
Both our paravets hold a Diploma in Veterinary Pharmacy from DUVASU, Mathura since 2023. As a vital part of our clinical team, they are involved in every stage of a dog’s care, from preparing each patient for surgery and assisting the veterinary surgeon, to closely monitoring recovery and providing attentive post-operative care. They also manage medications, vaccinations, wound care and routine health checks, while ensuring every dog is comfortable, settled and well cared for. Their knowledge, hands-on experience and commitment to animal welfare make them an essential part of the care we provide.

Every day, our team is out in the field, safely catching dogs for sterilisation and returning them to the exact place they came from once they have recovered. It is demanding, hands-on work that requires patience, confidence and physical skill. With nearly 30 years of combined experience, they know how to approach, handle and transport dogs safely, even in challenging situations. Their tireless work ensures that every dog makes the journey from the field to the clinic and safely back home again.

Kennel Care Team
Our Kennel Care Team works tirelessly throughout the day to maintain a clean, hygienic and comfortable environment for every dog in our care. With numerous kennels to manage, maintaining high standards of hygiene is a demanding but essential part of their work, helping prevent illness and support recovery. They also ensure every dog is fed, has fresh water, and receives regular checks throughout the day, keeping the patients comfortable, settled and well cared for.
