Our Journey

A 23-year legacy of hard work and community-rooted service in Delhi.

2002

In March 2002, Dr. Yaiphabi Devi founded Animal India Trust (AIT) with a simple belief that street dogs deserved to be treated with compassion, not cruelty. We began operations at our first facility in Kotla Mubarakpur, marking the start of our on-ground animal welfare work.

2003

In March we began working with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and began operations from the Ghazipur MCD facility. This partnership gave AIT the oppurtunity to pursue our mission at a large scale.

2004

We expanded operations to our very own clinic in Lajpat Nagar, expanding our capacity and reach across Delhi.

2016

Our Tughlakabad facility opened in May, allowing us to serve more communities and their dogs.

2018

The Vasant Kunj facility became the next chapter in our growing network of ABC operations across Delhi.

2020

AIT opens a new ABC unit in Noida in collaboration with the Noida Authority. The new facility gave the organisation the space and infrastructure to expand its work, allowing more dogs to be treated and cared for under one roof.

2026 and counting

24 years on. 100,000+ dogs sterilised. 110,000+ vaccinated.
Today, our small, dedicated team performs up to 30 surgeries each day, continuing the work that began in 2002. Due to the success of our drive in many areas of Delhi, we were able to conclude operations in those facilities and redirect our teams and resources to where intervention is needed the most. We currently work out of our Noida and Lajpat Nagar ABC unit.

We have even opened a new operating theatre for cats in our Noida unit.

The work continues, the numbers keep growing, and we’re still counting.
